Diary study

Introduction to the diary

Each day you will be asked to answer a small number of questions, please finish these each day. There will be three days in total and it is very important that you finish by the third day so we can prepare for your interview using your answers.


Please set aside at least 10 minutes each day to complete the tasks and questions. Note that they concern your personal use of digital platforms, not business uses.

There is a repeat task we would like you to do every day. Please look out for and capture examples of online privacy or data sharing experiences that you encounter during your day. For example:

• A cookies pop up when you visit a new website
• A privacy agreement email
• A settings page for data sharing or personalisation
• A privacy centre
• Settings or permissions when you sign up for a new app, account or service
• A pop-up when an app is updated

This could be on any device (e.g. phone, laptop, tablet). Try to remember to take screenshots of any examples that you come across and upload them when you answer the other questions for the day.
